Who am I?
Currently:
I’m currently working in a ASX listed company doing Search Engine Optimization(SEO) and Search Engine Marketing(SEM). In my own time, I would consider myself as an internet marketer as I own websites which earn revenue from affiliate marketing. I have recently started investing in domain names. I have around 130 .com.au domains and 200 other TLD domains.
A little background on me:
I was born on February 19, 1987 in K.L Malaysia and migrated to Australia with my parents in 1990. When I was young, I loved to draw, things such as buildings, cartoon characters, designing new chairs so I thought I would end up being an Architect or maybe an interior designer. During my teens, I started to realise how important money was so I changed my goals, and wanted to do something more business oriented, such as commerce or banking finance.
In 2005, after received my ENTER score I thought it was the end of the world. I didn’t get the 90+ I needed to get into Melbourne University’s Commerce course. My parents wanted me to attend Melbourne University so Monash wasn’t an option. I opt for Information Systems at Melbourne University with the intentions of transferring into Commerce later during the year.
In May 2006, my life changed where a University friend told me how you could really make money online by earning advertisement revenue. What motivated me was, a 22 year old Asian dude in the States was earning US$18k a month and that was my goal.
As you must give up things in order to gain, I didn’t go out for 3 months and stayed home planning, researching, learning and implementing my website. My initial investment was A$250 for the website template I purchased off ebay. During the first month, I made double what I invested and within 6 months I reached my goal.
I was in dreamland, every morning when I woke up, I just checked my affiliate accounts and see the money rolling in quicker than I ever thought. Although, I was living life, eating nice food, buying nice clothes, I was too young to manage my money well so as fast as it was coming in, the quicker it leaked out. I wasted money on stupid things such as designer clothing.
There was a point I was left with nothing, due to bad investments and lack of planning, I was lucky enough to be young when I failed. To me, the most important thing I gained was not the money but more the experience I gained during this roller coaster journey. I am confident to say, during the past 5 years, I have experienced a lot more than what most people experience during their lives (money wise). I’ve been in situations where I has been in debt but luckily for me, during my darkest hours there have always been a shed of light, showing me the way out.
There are a few things I find so important no matter what you do.
- Never rest on your laurels – you can’t relax and take things for granted.
- Need to be motivated in what you do – if you lose motivation you will lose the drive to work and spend less time doing work
- Set short and long term goals – set achievable short term goals such as buying a car, and a long term goal of buying a house.
It takes hard work and commitment like everything you do, as earning money online isn’t as easy as it seems. Sure, you need luck but you have to use it wisely.
